Jumping into the last week of Term!

It is week 11 of Term 1 eeeeek! The last week of the term!

Today we had an amazing day celebrating Jump Rope for heart! We are very active at keeping ourselves healthy here at Te Mahia School and that has been recognised by the Heart Foundation. So today we gave back to the Jumprope for Heart as well as to Starship Children's Hospital by jumping our own little hearts out!

Tamariki were amazing!

They jumped through 10 songs which took them 20 minutes. Thankfully they had wee rests in between each song but they were rather puffed by the end of it! Then we spent another 20 jumping in groups for double dutch and single long rope, as well as a brand new kind of long rope skipping- the egg beater!

It was a fantastic day for a very worthy cause! Ka pai tamariki, it was awesome to see you doing this with a whole bunch of passion and enthusiasm!

This week is going to be a good wrap up of a pretty awesome term....

We have said goodbye to Lucas and unfortunately are farewelling another awesome Room 3 member as Oasis heads to Gisborne to be with his whanau.

But as we say Good bye we also say a very big Hello! To our new student Tylah. Tylah is our 7th girl in Room 3- which all of us girls are pretty excited about!

Enjoy your week whanau and have a safe and happy break!

Athletics, a farewell and our A's!

Last week was super busy we've the extra long weekend and athletics!
We only had two days in class!

Room 3 tamariki were super speedy and super talented at athletics! It was awesome to see.
The most impressive part was that everyone gave it a go!

Ka pai to all of you who gave it a go and enjoyed yourselves. A very big thankyou to all the whanau who came and supported our tamariki!

Unfortunately last Friday was the last day for Lucas in Room 3. He is off to Ohuka School! He has promised us that with all his flash writing skills he will write us a letter!

Today we had some very cool Room 3 learners!

Tarquinn-Zaid and Shevryn were so proud of themselves for writing their own A's onto their "Ants!". Their ants are unfinished at the moment but we will make sure we add them to the blog when they are finished!

Mathematicians

Room 3 tamariki have their thinking caps on this week with their maths learning. The Kowhai Group (Hikurangi, Oasis, Tarquinn, James, and Shevryn) were learning to solve add/sub problems by imaging tens frames that involves crossing over from one column of 5 to the other to work the answer out. The Kakariki Group (Violet, Rome, Shayne and Cleo) were learning to count down to solve subtraction problems with larger numbers.
Both groups were thinking really hard about what they know in regards to number knowledge and seeing patterns with numbers, some tamariki are also learning new strategies/more efficient strategies to solve maths problems. Ka mau te wehi nga tamariki o ruma toru!!
