Waituna West and Cleo's Prize

Last week we had a visit from Waituna West School from Fielding.

They are on their school camp at the moment, travelling all around the East Cape! And it's not just one classroom, it is their whole school!

Their first stop was our school. We welcomed them with a powhiri, and then they spent the day doing fun water activities with Room 1.

They enjoyed their time with us and were impressed with our friendly and welcoming students!

In other news....

Cleo loves watching What Now. She entered a competition on What Now to create a minion. Her minion was a Maori Minion and it was awesome! So awesome that she won the competition. Her prize turned up at school the other day and check out what it was!! Very cool!

Our Scarecrow

We created a scare crow in Room 3.

His name is "Super Scary".
His job is to scare the pests away from our beautiful veggie gardens.

You may have seen his mates from Room 1 and 2. They all look really awesome.

Our scare-crow is now living outside Eastland Farm Supplies on Mahia Ave in town. He is hanging out there to be a part of a competition.

So if you are in town pop in as many times as you can to see and vote for our pretty cool scarecrow.
(If you're not sure which one he is, he is all green!)

Beat Boxing Duffy Hero

We were so lucky to have Tipene Harmer visit us on Monday as the Duffy Hero. He is a rapper who has the song "Westside Hori"- you may have heard it!

He told the kids how he wasn't very good at reading and writing and used to get embarassed when reading in front of the class.
He feel in love with music at school and told his dad at the age of 9 that he wanted to be a rapper. His Dad told him he would need to become better with his writing and reading.
So Tipene put hard work into his reading and writing so that he could produce awesome raps that rhymed.

Tipene made the kids beatbox their own beat. He selected 4 kids. One was the kick drum who made a bass sound with their voice, one was the high hat who made a "tssssss" sound with their voice, another was the snare who made a "chhhh" sound, and the last was using their voice!

Below is a video capturing what they did!
